TWA Hotel at JFK Airport, New York City. (BerlinRosen)

Who doesn’t love an unconventional travel story, especially when it involves midcentury architecture? Or is that just me?

In May, I was fortunate enough to write about my first impressions of the newly restored TWA Hotel at New York City’s JFK Airport for Budget Travel.

I’m a huge fan of architect Eero Saarinen’s work — especially his Gateway Arch in St. Louis — so entering the refurbished TWA Flight Center (originally opened in 1962) was a once-in-a-lifetime experience I’ll never forget. Read all about it on Budget Travel’s website or in PDF form here.

This piece reminds me of my other favorite midcentury-focused travel story, Mad Men Travel Destinations, which I wrote back in 2015, in anticipation of Mad Men‘s last seven episodes. (View the PDF here.)

One final thought about the awe-inspiring lobby of the TWA Hotel: As Mad Men‘s Pete Campbell would say, “A thing like that…”

More updates on my other work to come!
